Books

Welcome to the book section of Doubter’s Parish. We hope you enjoy Martin’s novel, An Inconvenient Loss of Faith.

An Inconvenient Loss of Faith tells the story of a doubting southern clergyman who loses traditional faith, quits the ministry, and forges a new life and faith beyond the constraints of institutional religion. However, it’s far more than that. It’s a love story between a minister named Paul and a scientist named Sarah. It’s a story about best friends. It’s a story about a specific United Church of Christ congregation between the years 1991 and 2001. It’s also a story about some of the most challenging theological issues of our time.

Searching For Happiness

How Generosity, Faith, and Other Spiritual Habits Can Lead to a Full Life

The key to happiness is being rich, successful, and beautiful…right? Martin Thielen, best-selling author of Searching For Happiness, insists that this is far from the truth.
